Job Title Technical Service and Support Specialist
Department Operations
Reports to Operations Manager
Location Nanaimo, BC


The Technical Service and Support Specialist, working in collaboration with the Operations and Sales Teams, is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while carrying out service and support work on various products and systems for customers in the aquaculture industry. Additionally, this position works closely with the Project Management and Engineering Teams to support project delivery, contribute to aspects of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) design, and participate in Research & Development projects to further advance PR Aqua’s capabilities and offering.


  • Participate in the development, implementation, and operation of a customer service program supporting PR Aqua endorsed product lines.
  • Install, service, troubleshoot and repair as needed, PR Aqua endorsed product lines.
  • Train customers in the safe and efficient operation of PR Aqua endorsed products.
  • Communicate directly with customers regarding product related issues, troubleshooting and service calls.
  • Schedule site visits.
  • Maintain detailed records of interactions with customers, installation and/or repair activities, reported issues, and completed solutions along with any further actions required.
  • Acquire and maintain appropriate safety certifications in support of onsite activities.
  • Coordinate parts orders.
  • Commission new product installations.
  • Carry out pre-commissioning activities (ex: create and manage pre-commissioning checklist, liaise with installation contractors).
  • Participate in project start-ups (ex: provide experienced-based input for start-up of RAS and equipment packages).
  • Perform product testing and process validation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on technology and process improvement initiatives.
  • Develop RAS service and maintenance programs for system operators.
  • At all times, positively represent PR Aqua and affiliates.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of Safety protocols involving working in confined spaces, lock out tag out procedures, WHMIS, and working alone
  • Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office 365 software
  • Proficiency using industry-related tools and equipment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle
  • Must possess a valid passport
  • Must have received full vaccination for Covid-19 and be willing to be vaccinated in the future should the need arise to meet travel and/or customer requirements
  • Will be required to take a first aid course, and may be expected to acquire other certifications as appropriate


  • Relevant Technical Degree/Diploma
  • Relevant Technical experience in a service-based industry


Able to communicate effectively in the English language.


The work environment and physical demands of this position are highly variable and are often dictated by the customer’s operational layout and biosecurity protocols. The employee must be capable of carrying tool kits and parts around customer’s sites. It is often the case that maintenance activities need to be conducted in dark, damp, and unheated parts of the facility and require lifting, crouching, and standing for periods.

In addition to working at local customer sites (many in remote locations), the employee will be expected to travel occasionally outside the local area. International travel may also be required.
